Cardinals/AZSTA Update on University of Phoenix Stadium

Posted Aug 13, 2010

Below is a joint statement from Cardinals President Michael Bidwill and AZSTA Board Chair Bill Peltier:

As most are aware, University of Phoenix Stadium suffered damage during a reported microburst that occurred on July 29, 2010.  The team has retained one of the nation’s premier forensic engineering firms to assess the damage. Last evening, that group shared its initial findings, which indicate that additional repairs to the building will be needed. AZSTA has retained its own nationally recognized experts that will work jointly with the team’s. The Cardinals and AZSTA are currently working with Hunt Construction Group and its subcontractors to complete all necessary repairs as soon as possible.

In the interim, additional measures are being implemented out of an abundance of caution to address the possibility of severe weather conditions similar to those experienced on July 29. Storm forecasting experts have been retained to monitor local weather conditions in addition to public information from the National Weather Service. All actions are being undertaken with the safety of fans, players, employees and all attendees foremost in everyone’s mind.

With specific regard to Saturday evening’s preseason game between the Cardinals and Texans, the current forecast is for stable weather conditions with a very low likelihood of severe weather and no disruption to the normal schedule is anticipated.

We will continue to monitor the progress of the repairs and the weather, with safety being of paramount importance.
