An NFC Honor For Adrian Peterson

Posted Oct 18, 2017

New running back wins conference Offensive Player of the Week for 134-yard debut

Cardinals running back Adrian Peterson won the NFC Offensive player of the week award.

LONDON, England – Adrian Peterson wanted to stay humble – he even said as much as he was talking – but when he ran for 134 yards last week against Tampa Bay, it meant a lot.

“Up until this point you hear so much from outside sources, and I do a great job of blocking out,” Peterson said. “But I’m hearing it, and when you hear those things they kind of hit you a little bit. But for me, I never lost focus, and I have always understood what God has blessed me with. So, being able to come here and have the opportunity to display it; it was satisfying.”

The validation continued Wednesday, when Peterson was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his play, which included a couple of touchdowns.

Peterson, who arrived in a trade last week, sparked a 160-yard rushing day for the Cardinals. The Cards won, 38-33.

Peterson is the second Cardinal to win the Offensive POW this season – a nice ratio for a team with three wins thus far. Wide receiver J.J. Nelson won the award for his play in Indianapolis in Week 2.

"It’s amazing, because you think about the first four weeks and you sit on the sideline for the first time in my career," Peterson said. "I’m averaging less than ten plays a game for four weeks. Then for this opportunity, for this trade to happen and to come back my first game and be named NFC Player of the Week, it’s like a story that you see in a book.
"I was down mentally, but just kept the faith and kept believing and kept working and the opportunity came and I was able to take advantage of it. It’s nice. It’s something that I’ll remember for sure."
