The Cardinals will spend a week away from Flagstaff in training camp, practicing against the Chiefs in Missouri. Camp will also be a little different given the Hyundai logo patches on the practice uniforms, thanks to the team’s new camp sponsor.
But the rest of the camp schedule will look a lot like years past, including a Red and White Practice July 28 and a night practice at the refurbished Lumberjack Stadium Aug. 1 on the campus of Northern Arizona University.
The Cardinals report to Flagstaff July 24. The first practice is July 25 from 3-5 p.m.
In all, the Cardinals will practice 21 times at NAU. New collective bargaining agreement rules state anytime a team practices twice in one day – which will happen seven times in Flagstaff – one has to be a walkthrough. The Cardinals will hold their walkthroughs in the morning sessions on the days when they go twice.
Usually, the Red and White practice is held after the Cards have been in Flagstaff more than a week, but with the team playing in the Hall of Fame game Aug. 5, this year’s version will be the sixth practice of camp.
The Red and White work will begin at 11:30 a.m., preceded by an outdoor autograph session by the team from 10:45-11:10 a.m. for kids 12 years old and younger. The practice will, as usual, conclude with a live goal-line session.
All practices, save for the night version, will be held on the grass fields next to Walkup Skydome. In case of rain or lightning, practice will be moved inside the Skydome, where fans can attend.
As always, admission and parking are free and fans can get autographs from players and coaches walking off the field after practice.
