Cardinals Release Four Before Rookies Arrive

Posted May 10, 2017

Three receivers let go as undrafted class set to sign first contracts

Cardinals wide receiver Chris Hubert was among four players released Wednesday.

With rookie minicamp coming this weekend and the undrafted rookie class about to sign their initial contracts Thursday when they arrive in Tempe, the Cardinals made some roster cuts Wednesday so they’d be in position to be at the 90-man roster.

Three wide receivers were among the four players released: Chris Hubert, Harvey Binford and Marvin Hall. Safety Trevon Hartfield was also let go.

The Cardinals have a handful of new bodies at wide receiver. Third-round draft pick Chad Williams is the most notable,  although the Cards also are bringing in a pair of undrafted wideouts: Rutgers product Carlton Agudosi, and the intriguing Krishawn Hogan out of Marian.

Running back Andre Ellington is also attempting to make the transition to wide receiver this offseason.

That’s on top of a wide receivers unit that is already loaded with veterans.

Once the undrafted rookies sign, they count against the 90-man roster. Drafted rookies count against the roster immediately, even unsigned.

The Cardinals’ veterans are in the middle of Phase 2 work right now. After rookie minicamp, the Cardinals have another Phase 2 work day Monday and commence Phase 3 organized team activities Tuesday.
