Cards Get Back To Work

Posted Oct 8, 2012

Team moves past Rams' loss, prepares for Bills

The Cardinals have moved past their game with the Rams and Monday were preparing for the Bills.

The Cardinals haven’t forgotten about Thursday’s 17-3 loss to the Rams, but they have moved on.

A weekend away from football can help.

With a rare Sunday off, some Cardinals’ spent the day watching football from their couches while others got out of town for the brief respite. Most Cards, however, found their way to the Tempe training facility to treat their bodies and get a workout in.

But after watching the film on Friday, the Cardinals put game behind them. They had to, center Lyle Sendlein said.

“You can’t let one game beat you twice or even be in your head for Monday for preparing for the following Sunday,” he said.

The Cardinals were back on the field Monday and they took advantage of the extra day to prepare for the Buffalo Bills by practicing their fundamentals.

It felt more like a training camp practice than the regular season, tight end Todd Heap said.

“It’s more of a time to focus, hone in on technique, on footwork, hands, all the little things you can get better at.”

But one thing will help the Cardinals get a fresh start from last weekend, linebacker Sam Acho said – a win Sunday over the Bills.

The Cardinals’ first loss of the season came at the end of a short week. While the squad wasn’t using that as an excuse, the lack of recovery time from playing the Dolphins took a toll on their bodies.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt gave the team Friday off, saying last week “it wouldn’t really be productive for us right now.” He didn’t want to wait a weekend to get back on the practice field, but with the extra time for some players to recover from injuries, it was a decision looking toward the long-term.

And the days off helped heal their bodies it also helped clear the Cardinals’ minds.

“We were able to be away from the frustrations of losing and sometimes that’s good because it’s easier to talk amongst the locker room when you’re here,” Sendlein said. “It was good timing I guess.”
