The Cardinals may yet find another receiver to add to the roster, but in the meantime, they will be bringing back all their key components from last season.
Early Doucet, the lone free agent among the wideout corps, agreed to return Tuesday on a two-year contract. Terms, as usual, were not announced.
Doucet set career-highs in 2011 with 54 receptions, 689 yards and five touchdowns in his fourth NFL season, playing in 16 games for the first time. He came up with a pair of long touchdown catches against Carolina (70 yards) and San Francisco (60 yards) and scored on a game-winning screen pass in Philadelphia.
How he fits into the receiving corps going forward will be one of the interesting parts of the offseason. The Cardinals were looking at receivers in free agency, and while Doucet’s return might end that quest, the Cards may still address the position in the draft and change the dynamic.
