Even in a season which collectively didn't go as expected or hoped, there are several individuals who deserve recognition for an outstanding 2016. Here are my award winners for this season.
The Sure Thing:
Jones gave the cardinals something they haven't had since Bertrand Berry. An elite pass rusher who constantly demands attention from the opposition. I believe Jones still hasn't peaked, and will be a dominating force for many years to come. The Cardinals knew what they were getting when they traded
Most Improved Player:
Golden heads into the final regular season game with a team-high 10 sacks. Golden was impressive last year, and his hard work paid off in 2016 as his productivity increased. Golden was told by many people he would never be a double-digit sack pass rusher in the NFL, and he's already proved his doubters wrong in a short time.
Player I'm looking forward to seeing most next year: Larry Fitzgerald
I have no inside information and I'm totally guessing, but I think Larry will give it one more shot since the Cardinals still have a lot of championship-caliber talent on the roster. Fitzgerald has defied age with his 102-catch season and his physical blocking in the run game. This is hopeful on my part as well. Fitzgerald is the greatest Arizona Cardinal of all time, and I personally don't want to see his career end on a losing note.
Other candidates: J.J. Nelson,
MVP: David Johnson
This is easy. Johnson has had perhaps the greatest single-season in team history. From his record streak of games with 100-plus scrimmage yards to his franchise touchdown record, Johnson deserves consideration for league MVP. Coaches will tell you he still has room to grow, which is exciting to think about and embrace.
