A trip to visit the Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers in mid-August highlights the Cardinals’ preseason schedule, which was released Tuesday.
Exact dates and kickoff times for the Cards are yet to be announced.
The Cardinals open on the road in Oakland the weekend of Aug. 11-15 before traveling to see the Packers between Aug. 18 and Aug. 22. The preseason home opener comes the weekend of Aug. 25-29 when the San Diego Chargers visit, and then the Cards close out the preseason Sept. 1 or 2 by resuming their annual finale against the Broncos – in Arizona – after a one-year absence.
It’s the seventh time in eight seasons the Cards have closed with the Broncos, with only last year – when the Broncos were on the regular-season schedule – left without a preseason meeting.
The Cardinals faced the Packers in the preseason in 2009, when the teams completed a trifecta of meeting in the preseason, regular season and playoffs. All three games were at University of Phoenix Stadium. The last time the Cards traveled to Green Bay was in 2006 during the final season of coach Dennis Green’s tenure.
The regular-season schedule will be released later this month, likely next week. Last year, the regular-season schedule was announced on April 20.
Both the preseason and regular season schedule, of course, hinge on an eventual resolution of the current labor standoff.
