Jay Feely had made it clear as the season was ending that he wanted to return to the Arizona Cardinals, and Friday, he and the team made that happen.
The veteran kicker agreed to a new two-year contract, the first of three free agent specialists to decide his future. Long snapper
The Cardinals also officially announced the return of reserve tackle D’Anthony Batiste on a one-year contract.
In two seasons with the Cards since arriving to replace Neil Rackers, Feely has converted 43 of 51 field goals (84 percent) and all 62 of his point-after tries. He also scored a touchdown in 2010, running in a score on a fake field goal. Last season, Feely was 19-of-24 on field goals, missing two in a game on two occasions. But he rallied to make his final 11 attempts in a row, and his final field goal of the season came on the season’s final play, a 28-yarder in overtime to beat the Seahawks and even the Cards’ record at 8-8.
The Cards are still expected to bring back Leach. Zastudil had a solid season – 45.2-yard average – although he battled injuries and if brought back could have to fend off competition for the job.
There was no new news on the other free agents the Cardinals have been talking with. Cornerback William Gay has yet to choose a team, although one of the spots he visited is likely out of the running after the Broncos signed Tracy Porter. Cardinals cornerback
Tackle Demetrius Bell, who visited the Cardinals last week, also remains unsigned.
