Biography

Pro Career:

Selected by the Cardinals in the sixth-round (204th overall) of the 2009 NFL draft and appeared in 11 games and both postseason games as a rookie. Placed on injured reserve (leg) on 11/23/10 after playing 10 games during his second season.

2010: Contributed on special teams and as a reserve OLB on defense, starting a career-best three games while recording a career-high 11 tackles, one sack and six special teams tackles before a leg injury ended his season after 10 games played … recorded a team-high two special teams tackles in the season opener @ StL (9/12) … tied for the team-lead with two special teams tackles vs. Oak (9/26) … saw increased playing time in place of LB Clark Haggans who left the game at the start of the fourth quarter (groin) @ Sea (10/24) and recorded two tackles … made first career start for the injured Haggans, tying a career-high with five tackles, one sack and one QB pressure vs. TB (10/31); sack came on third down with three and a half minutes left in the game, moving TB from the AZ 21-yard line to the AZ 35-yard line and on the next play Kerry Rhodes blocked the 53-yard FG attempt to keep AZ within three points … for the second straight game started in place of injured LB Haggans @ Min (11/7) and totaled two tackles … made third start @ KC (11/21), recording two tackles before leaving early in the fourth quarter with an injured leg … placed on injured reserve (leg) on 11/23.

 

2009:  Played in 11 regular season games and both postseason contests, missing weeks 12-16 with a knee injury … in first career game registered one special teams tackle vs. SF (9/13) … saw action on defense and recorded the first two tackles of his career @ Jax (9/20) … contributed on special teams over the next five games, recording a season-high two special teams tackles @ NYG (10/25) … registered first career sack and tied for the team-lead with two special teams tackles @ Chi (11/8) … saw increased time on defense with injured LB Chike Okeafor (back) out and recorded one tackle vs. Sea (11/15) … with Okeafor (back) out again, continued to see more time on defense, registering one sack, one tackle and one QB pressure @ StL (11/22); marked second sack in three games … inactive (knee) for the next five games … returned from knee injury to lead all Cardinals LBs with five tackles in the regular season finale vs. GB (1/3/10) … in first career playoff game, registered one special teams tackle vs. GB (1/10/10).

 

College:

Began his college career as a WR and TE before switching to defense in 2006 … after making the switch to defense, went on to appear in 37 games, collecting 95 tackles, 15 sacks and four forced fumbles during his collegiate career … recorded a career-high 9.5 sacks as a junior in 2007 … despite battling an ankle injury, appeared in all 12 games as a senior, recording 36 tackles, seven tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks, a forced fumble and blocked his first career kick … earned second-team All-Big Ten honors by the media and honorable mention from the coaches after appearing in all 13 games with nine starts as a junior ... recorded career-highs with 41 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks and a forced fumble … named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for his performance at Indiana where he registered four sacks, five tackles for loss and a forced fumble … played in all 12 games as a sophomore, starting the final two at DE in his first season since moving to the defensive side of the ball … totaled 18 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, two sacks and two forced fumbles ... played in eight games as both a WR and TE as a freshman in 2005 but did not record any statistics.

 

Personal:

Full name William Benjamin Davis, Jr … considered one of the top prep players in the country during his time at Eleanor Roosevelt (Greenbelt, MD) High School where he earned first-team All-State, all-metro, all-league, and all-county honors starting on both sides of the ball … as a senior, was named to the SuperPrep top-25 team after recording 21 receptions for 579 yards (27.6 avg.) and 10 TDs as a WR … on defense, totaled 136 tackles and 24 sacks … lettered two years in football and track and one year in basketball … majored in Community Health at Illinois.
