College Career: Started 41 of 49 games at North Carolina and recorded 178 tackles (92 solo), 19.5 sacks, 45.5 tackles for loss and 24 QB pressures … also registered 13 passes defensed, four forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries … his 45.5 tackles for loss rank fifth on the UNC career list behind William Fuller (57.0), Julius Peppers (53.0), Greg Ellis (50.0) and Marcus Jones (46.0), while his 19.5 sacks are seventh-best on the school’s all-time chart … beginning with his sophomore season in 2011, started the final 38 games of his collegiate career.

2013: An All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team selection from the team’s coaches and an All-American third-team selection from The NFL Draft Report, Martin earned a spot in the Senior Bowl after starting all 13 games as a senior … recorded a career-high 82 tackles (46 solo) as he ranked third in the conference and eighth in the nation with 11.5 sacks, the fourth-best sack total by a Tar Heel player in team history … also ranked third in the ACC and fifth in the FBS with 21.5 tackles for losses, the sixth-best total in school history and 16th best total in ACC annals … paced the team with 14 QB pressures as he ranked fourth in the league with three forced fumbles, recovering two … also had three passes defensed … was twice named ACC Player of the Week and was named Walter Camp National Player of the Week for his performance at Pittsburgh when he finished with eight tackles (six solo), 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in the win over the Panthers … finished fifth in the nation, averaging 1.70 stops behind the line of scrimmage, along with placing eighth in the FBS ranks by averaging 0.88 sacks.

2012: An All-ACC second-team selection as a junior, started all 12 games and ranked fourth in the conference and second on the team with 15.5 tackles for loss, adding four sacks and eight QB pressures … also forced and recovered a fumble while registering three passes defensed … posted at least one tackle for loss in 10 of 12 games … ranked second in the ACC with an average of 1.29 tackles for loss per game.

2011: As a sophomore, began a streak of 38 consecutive starts by starting all 13 games at right DE … finished the regular season with 40 tackles (20 solo), seven tackles for loss, four sacks, a fumble recovery, six passes defensed and five QB pressures … recorded four tackles vs. Missouri in the Independence Bowl.

2010: Played in 11 games with three starts as a true freshman, lining up with the first unit at left DE vs. LSU, Georgia Tech and Rutgers … recorded 16 tackles (seven solo), with 1.5 tackles for loss, two QB pressures and a pass defensed … started his first career game vs. LSU in the Georgia Dome and had two tackles.

Personal: Attended Roanoke Rapids (NC) High School where he was a standout in three sports: football, basketball and track … twice named the area Defensive Player of the Year and was selected the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s (NCHSAA) Athlete of the Year … as a senior, helped lead Roanoke Rapids to an undefeated season and a conference title … finished the season with 163 tackles, 10 forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, four sacks and one INT, adding 25 tackles for a loss ... delivered 121 tackles and five sacks as a junior … named the fifth-best player in the state by The Charlotte Observer and was invited to play in North Carolina’s Shrine Bowl, where he earned MVP honors after recording eight tackles, a tackle for loss, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble which led to a TD … was a hurdler and long jumper for the track team … majored in Public Policy.
