The Cardinals look like they will have a substitute kicker Sunday when they play the Raiders.

The team officially signed rookie Matt McCrane Saturday, after veteran Phil Dawson missed all week of practice with a right hip injury. McCrane was with the Cards in preseason before being released, and was an emergency sign on to the practice squad last month when Dawson was dealing with a groin injury that ultimately didn't keep Dawson from playing.

The Cards also promoted defensive end Vontarrius Dora from the practice squad, adding a defensive lineman to a group that might not have defensive tackles Robert Nkemdiche (calf) and Rodney Gunter (death in the family) available.

To make room for the two, the Cardinals released cornerback David Amerson, who was just signed this week, and wide receiver Kendall Wright. Depending on the health of safety Budda Baker -- who will not play against the Raiders with a knee injury -- Amerson could return next week.

McCrane actually played three games with the Raiders this season, also as an injury replacement, converting 5-of-9 field goal attempts and all five extra points. In the preseason for the Cardinals, McCrane actually led the team in scoring with 15 points, making 4-of-4 field goals (including two from at least 50 yards) and all three extra points.

ROOF TO BE OPEN

The Cardinals announced that, unless the weather forecast changes, the State Farm Stadium roof will be open for the game against the Raiders.
