Defense should get more help with Jordan Hicks addition

The "name" was revealed Monday, when the news trickled out that Terrell Suggs was expected to join the Cardinals' defense. Tuesday morning came the anchor, as it was reported by Ian Rapoport that Eagles inside linebacker Jordan Hicks -- a player who was rated by some as the best inside linebacker available in free agency -- would be signing with the Cardinals.

Again, players cannot officially sign contracts until Wednesday at 1 p.m. Arizona time, and the NFL world got a jolt Tuesday morning when linebacker Anthony Barr, widely reported to have agreed to a deal with the Jets Monday reversed course to go back to the Vikings. Everything talked about right now is tentative.

But ... if Hicks comes, the Cards will have that veteran inside linebacker to likely pair with Haason Reddick in Vance Joseph's 3-4 look (and it likely signals that Deone Bucannon will end up elsewhere.) Put Chandler Jones on one side and a rotation of Suggs and Brooks Reed (and maybe Nick Bosa?) on the other, and the linebacker corps looks better.

Hicks, who doesn't turn 27 until June, has to stay on the field. He was good in the 12 games he played in last season, with a good grade from Pro Football Focus, but he did miss some time. He played in only seven games the season before. But he had 91 tackles and three sacks last year and fills a position that needed an upgrade.
