Cardinals Sign Cornerback Jumal Rolle

Veteran hopes to make impression after missing 2016 with a torn Achilles

Jumal Rolle is coming off a serious injury but hopes to compete for a spot on the Cardinals.

The Cardinals signed Jumal Rolle to a one-year contract on Tuesday, adding another option at cornerback.

Rolle, 26, was with the Ravens last year but missed the season with a torn Achilles. He has three career interceptions, all of which came for the Texans in 2014. Rolle added 19 tackles and four passes defended that season before splitting time with Baltimore and Houston in 2015.

Rolle came into the league as an undrafted free agent out of Catawba in 2013. The 6-foot, 190-pound defensive back originally signed with the Bills, then joined the practice squads of the Saints and Packers before finding playing time in Houston.

He will attempt to make an impression with the Cardinals at a position that has uncertainty behind star Patrick Peterson. Brandon Williams and Justin Bethel are the current front-runners for the No. 2 cornerback spot, and the team drafted Auburn’s Rudy Ford in the sixth round to add to the group.

Elie Bouka, Ronald Zamort, Sojourn Shelton, Gump Hayes and Ryan Lewis round out the corners on the roster.
