Before back to the field comes backpacks

Sure, camp is approaching but so is school. No surprise, then, that (through the non-profit group Hope Endures) the Cards are taking part in a couple of events revolving around backpacks.

Wide receiver Jerheme Urban, mascot Big Red and a few cheerleaders will take part in kicking off the "Albertson's Backpack Drive" tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Albertson's at 21001 N. Tatum Blvd. The group will be taking in new of gently-used backpacks in exchange for a new backpack co-branded by the Cardinals and Albertson's. The drive lasts until the Cards' final home preseason game against the Packers Aug. 28. Fans can also bring backpacks to camp in Flagstaff in exchange for a voucher.

Meanwhile, earlier tomorrow morning (from 8-10 a.m.), receiver Lance Long, defensive lineman Keilen Dykes, Big Red and a few cheerleaders will help pass out 2,000 backpacks at Covenant International Church in Glendale to less fortunate schoolchildren. The backpacks will be filled with supplies. The group will also hand out 1,000 pairs of shoes and socks.
