Cardinals Get Some Linebacker Depth With Ramik Wilson

The Cardinals, searching for answers and help on defense, continue to make roster changes on that side of the ball Wednesday when they signed linebacker Ramik Wilson.

Wilson had been with the Jaguars in the preseason before being released, and played in all 16 games -- with four starts -- with the Rams in 2018.

To make room on the roster, the Cards cut cornerback Chris Jones. Jones had shown well in the offseason and training camp, but even with a wide-open opportunity with the suspension of Patrick Peterson and the broken leg of Robert Alford, Jones never could establish himself with the Cardinals. He had recently lost his playing time to Kevin Peterson.

"(Chris) did a good job for us and hopefully we can get him back in some form," coach Kliff Kingsbury said. Jones would be eligible for the practice squad if he clears waivers.

Patrick Peterson will return from his suspension on Monday. The Cardinals also claimed cornerback Trevor Williams off waivers on Tuesday. Kingsbury said he was not yet sure if Williams will be ready to play right away. Williams is coming off a quadriceps injury.

Wilson, meanwhile, will help at inside linebacker. The Cardinals have had injuries with backups Dennis Gardeck (ankle) and Ezekiel Turner (hand/hamstring) behind starters Jordan Hicks and Haason Reddick. Wilson was a fourth-round pick of the Chiefs in 2015, with five fumble recoveries and an interception in his career.
