The release of quarterback Cole McDonald opened up a single-digit jersey number, and Isaiah Simmons jumped on it.

The second-year inside linebacker will wear No. 9 in 2021, switching from the No. 48 he wore as a rookie. The NFL changed the rules this offseason to allow new position groups to wear single digits. Linebacker was one of them, but Simmons wasn't initially one of the players to change.

Here is the current list of players wearing single digits for the Cardinals (No. 8 is retired for Hall of Fame safety Larry Wilson):

1 – Quarterback Kyler Murray

2 – Running back Chase Edmonds

3 – Safety Budda Baker

4 – Punter Andy Lee

5 – Kicker Matt Prater

6 – Running back James Conner

7 -- Cornerback Byron Murphy

9 – Simmons

There were two other number changes this week. Wide receiver Krishawn Hogan is now No. 82 and undrafted rookie tight end Bruno Labelle is 35.
