NoteCARDS:

  • The Cardinals entered the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft with the 123rd overall selection and made a trade with Cleveland to move up to the 116th overall pick where they selected Gunter out of Delaware State.
  • Appeared in every game as a rookie in 2015, starting 11 contests at NT and finishing the season with 34 tackles, one sack, five tackles for loss and 12 QB pressures.
  • Was the first Delaware State player ever selected by the Cardinals in the NFL Draft and the school’s highest draft pick since San Francisco took future two-time Pro Bowl WR John Taylor with the 76th overall selection in 1986.
  • Did not receive a lot of attention from college scouts coming out of Haines City (FL) High School, where he played just one season of football. His time on the gridiron was cut short due to working 32 hours a week after school as a dishwasher and waiter at Spring Haven Retirement Home. He did so to help pay the household bills for his single mother and two younger brothers.
  • First individual selected in the 2015 NFL Draft that was not among players invited to the NFL Combine.

2015: Played in all 16 games and made 11 starts at NT, totaling 34 tackles, one sack and five tackles for loss … tied for third on the team with 12 QB pressures and added two QB hits … added six tackles and four QB pressures in two playoff games … totaled two tackles in NFL debut vs. NO (9/13) … made first career start at NT and had one QB pressure @ Chi (9/20) … recorded four tackles, including one for loss vs. SF (9/27) … collected two tackles, including one for loss, and had two QB pressures @ Det (10/11) … tied then season high with four tackles @ Pit (10/18) … registered his first career sack vs. Cin (11/22), taking down Andy Dalton for a 10-yard loss in the fourth quarter; added three tackles, including one for loss, and two QB pressures ... led the D-line with a career-best seven solo tackles, including two for loss vs. Sea (1/3/16) … recorded three tackles in Divisional Playoff vs. GB (1/16/16) … had three tackles and a team-high four QB pressures in NFC Championship Game @ Car (1/24/16).

College: A four-year starter and three-time All-MEAC selection at Delaware State, totaled 188 tackles, 37 tackles for loss, 18.0 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery during his career … led the team in sacks in each of his final three seasons … was a Delaware State and MEAC Scholar-Athlete … earned second-team All-MEAC honors after posting a career-high 57 tackles, seven sacks and 12 tackles for loss as a senior in 2014 ...  his seven sacks led the Hornets and ranked eighth in the MEAC … finished 16th in the league with 12 tackles for loss … named first-team All-MEAC as a junior after posting 43 tackles and a team-high 4.5 sacks … marked second straight season leading the team in sacks … finished second on the team with 10.5 tackles for loss … appeared in all 11 games in 2012 and was named second-team All-MEAC after posting 49 tackles and a team-high 5.5 sacks … led all D-linemen with 27 solo tackles and ranked second on the team with nine tackles for loss … also credited with three QB hurries, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a pass defensed … played in all 11 games as a true freshman and ranked fifth on the Hornets with 39 total tackles (24 solos)  … also finished fifth on the team with 4.5 tackles for loss to go along with a sack and a QB hurry.

Personal: Attended Haines City (FL) High School where he was a standout performer in both football and basketball … played just one season of football … earned honorable mention All-State honors as a senior in his lone season on the gridiron … cousin of D.C. Jefferson, who played football at Rutgers and was a seventh round selection (219th overall) of the Cardinals in the 2013 NFL Draft.
