The Cardinals were stomped by the Rams on Sunday, losing by 27 points in their most uncompetitive showing of the season.
While it’s going to be an unenjoyable week for the team, judging by blowout losses around the NFL this season, the poor performance seems unlikely to carry over on Sunday against the Steelers.
There have been 18 instances in which a team took the field following a loss by four possessions or more in 2019, and in eight of them it came away with the win. Take away the early-season struggles of the tanking Dolphins, and teams coming off a blowout loss are 8-7.
The Rams are an easy example, as they dominated the Cardinals a week after getting blown out by the Ravens. The Packers also rebounded from getting crushed by the 49ers with an easy win over the Giants on Sunday.
Looking back at 2018, as bad as the Cardinals were, two of their three wins came after 35-point losses.
It’s hard to pinpoint exactly why the Cardinals laid such an egg at home against Los Angeles, but based on their overall competitiveness this season, a bounceback against Pittsburgh seems likely.
