The Cardinals bolstered their pass-rushing presence on Sunday by signing Cassius Marsh to a one-year deal.

The veteran outside linebacker had five-and-a-half sacks a season ago for the 49ers and is expected to slot in as a rotational piece behind Chandler Jones and Terrell Suggs. To make room on the roster, cornerback Robert Alford (leg) was placed on injured reserve. Alford is ineligible to return for the first eight weeks of the season.

Marsh signed with the Seahawks this offseason and was expected to start, but Seattle’s trade for Jadeveon Clowney changed the landscape. Marsh was cut in a money-saving move.

The Cardinals will have to deal with Clowney twice this season but did benefit from the unanticipated availability of Marsh. While Jones and Suggs are an ideal pass-rushing duo, the team lacked strong options behind them, and Marsh should help fill that void.

The 27-year-old has 11½ sacks and four forced fumbles in his five NFL seasons after entering the league as a fourth-round pick of Seattle in 2014.

The Cardinals also re-signed seven players to their practice squad: quarterback Drew Anderson, tight end Caleb Wilson, linebacker Dante Booker, cornerback Nate Brooks, tight end Darrell Daniels, linebacker Vontarrius Dora and wide receiver A.J. Richardson.

They have three spots remaining, one of which will reportedly go to quarterback Kyle Sloter, who tweeted that he is joining the team.
