Defensive lineman David Carter was among those released by the Cardinals Friday.
The Cardinals made a handful of cuts Friday as they begin paring down to their final 53, but they have not made all their moves yet.
They also officially signed off on a 2013 season without their first-round draft pick.
The Cards put guard Jonathan Cooper, who broke his leg in the third preseason game, on season-ending injured reserve. He cannot return this season.
"We didn't feel like it was fair to our football team in case we do have someone who can come back sooner," coach Bruce Arians said. "We felt like we needed to keep that spot open. As much as we wanted Jon back, the chances of him coming back and getting into football shape weren't as realistic as we hoped for."
Said General Manager Steve Keim in a statement, "Knowing his work ethic and commitment, we have no doubt Jonathan will come out of this experience fully ready to be a key contributor next season and for many more beyond that."
The team also cut some but not all of the players needed to reach their roster limit, including safety
Jonathon Amaya, defensive lineman David Carter, guard Chilo Rachal and wide receiver Mike Thomas.
Also cut Friday were center Adam Bice, wide receiver Dan Buckner, tight end Alex Gottlieb, wide receiver Charles Hawkins, guard Senio Kelemete, linebacker Zack Nash, linebacker Colin Parker, tight end Richard Quinn and safety Curtis Taylor.
The moves get the Cards to 61 on the roster, although linebacker Daryl Washington's impending suspension will automatically trim one more from that list. Washington does not count against the roster during his four-game suspension – although when Washington returns, the Cards will need to clear a roster spot for him.
The remaining moves have to be made by 3 p.m. Arizona time Saturday although Arians said they would be done by noon. Trades are possible, Arians said.
"There is always door No. 2, waiver wire, trades," Arians said. "Nothing is set in stone with these final guys."
The lack of full moves likely means trades remain a possibility. The Cardinals will have to whittle down their cornerback position. There remain five tight ends on the roster, and the Cards expect to keep four. Arians said there was no further update on veteran Jeff King and his expected knee surgery.
Of the players still on the roster, two of the names in the spotlight Thursday night – running back Ryan Williams and quarterback Ryan Lindley – got a little closer to sticking around. Arians said he was "90 percent sure" of his decision on Lindley, although he wouldn't say what the decision was yet.
Keeping all five running backs, on the other hand, sounded more certain.
"There's no doubt," Arians said. "I like our running backs. It's one of the strengths of our whole football team, that position. We're not going to weaken it at all."
The Cardinals are watching other teams' cuts carefully to see if there are players they will want to claim or sign. The Cards still have an overabundance of defensive backs – no cornerbacks have been cut – and there is still question whether Jaron Brown and/or Kerry Taylor will be able to last as the fourth and fifth receivers based on who is available.
"The entire group I told them, 'Don't go buy a car yet,' " Arians said. "These next cuts are the tougher ones."
