Current Profession(s): Varsity Head Football Coach and High School Marketing Teacher at Trevor G Browne HS.

Please describe your role(s) in your profession(s): As the head football coach, I oversee the whole program. We focus on developing these young men to be successful long after their time on the football field. We strive every day to help them be the best versions of themselves. As one of the marketing teachers at TGB, I teach intro to marketing to students. I introduce them to the basics of marketing in business.

Please describe your pathway to your current profession(s): As I was finishing up my academic and athletic career in college, I wanted to continue being a part of football and wanted to get into coaching in college. Eventually, I was a graduate assistant coach at a small school in Missouri. After two years, I completed my MBA and was looking for a college opportunity, but it never came to fruition. I came back home and coached at a local HS and I started substitute teaching. I enjoyed being in the classroom more than I initially anticipated and started looking for full time teaching opportunities as well. I ran into my HS marketing teacher, and she asked what I had been doing and I told her I wanted to get into to teaching. She let me know of an opportunity and I was able to get an interview and land my first teaching job. Now, I'm in my fifth year of teaching and I'm the head coach at the HS I got my first coaching opportunity.

What is your education / training background? I went to Raymond S Kellis HS and Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD where I played football for four years and got my BA in Sports Management. I was a graduate assistant coach at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, MO and got my MBA from Chadron State College.

Tim Vasquez

Current Profession(s): Owner of Someburros!

Please describe your role(s) in your profession(s): I am honored to lead our family-owned and operated business. We have 15 Someburros locations across Arizona where we honor our family legacy by serving my Nana Isabel's time-tested recipes.

Please describe your pathway to your current profession(s): My pathway to my profession literally started at the very bottom! In 1986 my parents opened the first Someburros on Mill and Baseline in Tempe when I was 11 years old. My job was to dress in the donkey mascot costume, dance on the corner, and wave cars in. Since that time, I have worked in all aspects of the business from my roles in the kitchen, the front counter, a manager, a General Manager, and then to my current role is CEO and owner. Our company culture is what makes us special so I had to earn my way and gain and foster the respect of our Someburros Familia.

What is your education / training background? I am Arizona-born and raised, growing up in Tempe and attending Corona del Sol High School where my high school sweetheart would later become my wife. I had the privilege to play baseball at Arizona State University where I studied communications and business, graduating in 1998. I worked at Someburros while I went to school and played baseball. After my baseball career was over, I dedicated my full attention to Someburros and knew that it's what I wanted to do for a career. I was able to combine my ASU education with my passion for serving our family recipes and that was my driving force every single day. Just a couple of years after I graduated, we opened our second location and have been growing slowly and steadily ever since. There is nothing better than seeing the smiling faces sitting in our dining rooms as our guests enjoy my Nana's recipes.

Advice you'd give to your younger self: My advice to my younger self would be to "Savor every moment". Life goes by fast and it's not always about getting to next phase of life but more about enjoying the present moment you are in.

Who has influenced you? My parents, George and Mary Vasquez, have been a huge influence on me. They showed me how to care for others, how to treat your team like family, and to give back to the community. We still honor those pillars every day at Someburros. They worked with their hands and with their hearts and I think about that example on a daily basis.

My wife has also had a huge influence on me. She is my soul mate and the wisest person I know. She understands what's important in life and I learn from her every single day.

Tell us about anything you are passionate about outside of your profession(s): My family is what I am most passionate about in this world. My wife , Julie, and I met in our Kindergarten class at Kyrene del Norte in Tempe, AZ and started dating in 8th grade. We have been through IT ALL together, the good times, and the tough times. We are the proud parents of three amazing young adults. Our daughter, Isabel (named after my Nana Isabel) graduated from ASU and then worked hard at Someburros before getting married to ASU Tight End, Tommy Hudson, who now plays for the New Orleans Saints in the NFL. Our son, Camden, played baseball at the University of San Diego and now plays professional baseball in the Czech Republic. Our youngest son, Cody, is the brains of our family and is a junior at Harvard. And now, Julie and I are the proud grandparents of 2 year old, Kennedy Jane Hudson! I'm also very passionate about education, and I have published a book titled The Taco Stand, which was inspired by my Nana Isabel. The story shares the importance of hard work, following your dreams and passions, and the love of family. I often visit local elementary schools for readings, along with providing donated Someburros meals for students. A portion of book sales support schools and students in the valley with limited access.

Please feel free to tell us anything else that you'd like to share: My Nana Isabel and Tata Poncho Vasquez were born and raised in Arizona. Both my parents, George and Mary, were born in Arizona. My wife, Julie, and I were born in Arizona. That is why our mission at Someburros is to be The Most Loved Restaurant in Arizona! We do so by serving delicious, authentic Mexican food to our guests and giving back to the local communities we serve. Whether it be sponsoring youth sports teams, supporting first responders, raising funds for local organizations, or volunteering in underprivileged communities, we want to continue to build leaders and leave a positive impact.Through our family culture, our mission is to make this world a better place, One Burro At A Time!
