Jake Moreland is in his 24th season coaching and sixth in the NFL after joining Arizona's staff as tight ends coach on 2/20/26. He came to the Cardinals from Houston where he worked as the Texans tight ends coach for the past three seasons (2023-25).
Prior to joining Houston, Moreland spent one season (2022) as the tight ends coach with the Denver Broncos following one year (2021) with the New York Jets where he was an assistant offensive line coach.
While in Houston, Moreland worked with TE Dalton Schultz who posted a career-high 82 receptions for 777 yards and three TDs in 2025 while playing in all 17 games for the second consecutive season. Schultz's 82 receptions also established a Texans franchise record for receptions by a tight end in a single season and his 777 receiving yards were the second-most by a Houston tight end. Over the past three seasons (2023-25), Schultz ranks sixth in both receptions (194) and receiving yards (1,944) among all NFL tight ends. He joined Trey McBride, Travis Kelce and George Kittle as the only tight ends in the NFL with 50+ receptions and 500+ receiving yards each year from 2023-25, also becoming the first tight end in franchise history to accomplish the feat.
In 2024, Schultz had 53 receptions for 532 yards and two TDs after having 59 receptions for 635 yards and five TDs in 2023. Schultz became just the third Texans tight end to score a TD in three consecutive games that season.
During the 2022 season in Denver, Moreland coached TE Greg Dulcich, who as a rookie had 33 receptions for 411 yards and two TDs despite only appearing in 10 games. The 411 yards were the second most by a rookie tight end in team history (Noah Fant-562).
Moreland spent the 2021 season with the New York Jets as an assistant offensive line coach. Under his guidance, OL Alijah Vera-Tucker was named to the PFWA All-Rookie team after starting all 16 games played at left guard and accumulating the most snaps (1,026) of all Jets offensive linemen that year.
Prior to coaching in the NFL, Moreland spent 18 seasons at the collegiate level with stops at Western Michigan (2005-11, 2017-20), Air Force Academy (2012-14, 2016), Syracuse (2015), St. Joseph's (2004) and Elmhurst College (2003).
Moreland coached for 11 combined seasons (2005-11, '17-20) at his alma mater, Western Michigan. In his second stop with the Broncos, he served as the offensive coordinator/tight ends coach (2020), offensive coordinator/offensive line coach (2018-19) and co-offensive coordinator/offensive line coach (2017). Under Moreland's tutelage, three players were named as semifinalists of national awards at their respective positions between 2017-20 – RB LeVante Bellamy (Doak Walker Award), TE Giovanni Ricci (John Mackey Award) and OL Chukwuma Okorafor (Outland Trophy). Moreland first joined Western Michigan's staff as the tight ends coach in 2005.
Prior to returning to Western Michigan, Moreland coached wide receivers at the Air Force Academy in 2016 following a year at Syracuse overseeing offensive tackles and tight ends in 2015. He spent three seasons (2012-14) coaching tight ends during his first stint at the Air Force Academy.
During his first tenure at Western Michigan, Moreland helped develop TE Tony Scheffler who finished fourth in the Mackey Award voting (nation's top TE) and was drafted by Denver in the second-round of the 2006 NFL Draft.Â
He began his coaching career in 2003 at Elmhurst College after playing four years (1996-99) collegiately at Western Michigan. Moreland spent the 2004 season at St Joseph's college as the special teams coordinator/offensive assistant.
Moreland entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with the Jets in 2000 and spent two seasons in the league with New York and the Cleveland Browns. He saw action in 11 games (one start) and had three career receptions.
He played four seasons (1996-99) collegiately at Western Michigan. As a senior in 1999, he earned second team Mid-American Conference honors and was named a team captain. Moreland ended his collegiate career as Western Michigan's all-time leader in receptions (143) and tied for second in total TDs (13) among tight ends.
A native of Milwaukee, WI, Moreland graduated from Western Michigan with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Marketing. Along with his wife, Anne, the couple have three daughters: Courtney, Grace and Emma.
