J.J. Watt didn't practice to open training camp, dealing with a hamstring problem. The veteran didn't let that stop him from getting in a dig at rookie linebacker Zaven Collins, however.
Watt was asked about his perspective on the young inside linebacker duo of Collins and Isaiah Simmons.
"They are big, fast dudes," Watt said, laying the groundwork for the punchline. "Zaven a little too fast sometimes."
Some media members took a moment to get it, but it was a good one -- a broadside on Collins, who was nailed this offseason after driving 76 miles an hour in a 35 mph zone. Coach Kliff Kingsbury said Tuesday the team had a talk with Collins, who acknowledged his mistake.
Watt chuckled at the reaction, but he wasn't done.
"I told him, he was going to get those jokes for a while. Just settle in. those are here to stay," Watt said. "Don't worry. I talked to him. We're going to slow it down."
