NAME: CODY SIMON

A lot is being asked of inside linebacker Cody Simon right now. The fourth-round pick out of Ohio State is in charge of the defense, or perhaps better said, an extension of defensive coordinator Nick Rallis since it's Simon who is wearing the green dot in the absence of injured starter Mack Wilson Sr. On Sunday, Simon will make his third straight start. Last week, not only did he play 100 percent of the defensive snaps for a second straight game, but finished with a team-best 12 tackles, the highest single-game total for a Cardinals rookie since Budda Baker had 13 in Week 16 of the 2017 season. This week, Simon is tasked with helping to slow down a Jaguars offense that has scored 30, 29 and 35 points in the past three games.

NUMBER: 85

That's the jersey number of (future All-Pro) tight end Trey McBride, which should be called early and often. Not only is Trey McPlay 10 catches shy of setting the NFL record for most receptions by a TE in his first four seasons (Jimmy Graham, 301) but the Jags defense allowed 39 catches for 467 yards and seven TDs against tight ends in its previous six games before a 35-6 jackstomping of the sleepwalking Chargers. May Calvisi Consulting, the Paulie Play Sheet Division, suggest: "When in doubt, give 85 a shout."

NUANCE: FORCE THE PUNT

Jacksonville has been rolling the last few weeks and is coming off an impressive outing in which they didn't punt a single time. Good news for the Cards D is that they're top four in defending fourth down. The Jags have some playmakers around QB Trevor Lawrence, but he hasn't been consistently accurate this year. Look for players like defensive linemen Walter Nolen III and Calais Campbell to generate pressure on Lawrence to disrupt his momentum. If Arizona can put Jacksonville into 3rd-and-long situations (with fewer penalties than last week), that's going to create takeaway opportunities and get the defense off the field without giving up points.
