Aaron Brewer is still here.
He knows the Cardinals have looked around for possible replacements for the veteran long snapper job the last couple of years. Joe Shimko was the latest, but the Cardinals let Shimko go on Tuesday. Earlier in the offseason, Brewer joked that he marveled sometimes that he was still in the NFL. (And with a 17-man practice squad, it's not impossible Shimko could end up there either, for future use.)
It's not a shock. Brewer and kicker Matt Prater are best friends, and having Prater's trust in important. The fact Brewer has been with special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers for more than a decade may be more crucial.
Long snapping is about never knowing it is there. You find a guy, you tend to stick with him; a long-snapping change in the 25 years I have covered this team has been rare for a reason. The Cardinals have basically ridden with a guy until he physically just can't do it anymore.
So Brewer, a humble dude who goes into his ninth season with the Cardinals, rolls on.
The Cardinals have a week to get their roster down to 53. They currently have 91, including the international exemption for tight end Bernhard Seikovits.
