Cody Simon is hoping to create for himself a significant role as a rookie linebacker this season, but a big step -- getting his initial NFL contract signed -- is done.
Simon, the team's fourth-round pick, signed his four-year deal on Monday afternoon, shrinking the to-do list to sign the draft class down to two.
Still to sign are first-round pick Walter Nolen III and second-round pick Will Johnson.
Simon will battle for an open starting job alongside Mack Wilson Sr. at inside linebacker, along with free-agent signees Akeem Davis-Gaither and Mykel Walker as well as holdover Owen Pappoe.
"My goal every year no matter what is to win it all," Simon said. "Whether (the media) thinks it's possible or not that should be the goal. We've got the guys to do it. We were a couple games away (last year) from cracking the surface. That's a possibility at all times for us, especially with our quarterback. I'm just excited for the season."
