Larry Fitzgerald Will Play In 2017

Wide receiver makes his decision to come back for another year with Cardinals

Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald said Wednesday night he will return to play the 2017 season.

A day after Larry Fitzgerald said he had "pretty much" made his decision about what he would do for the 2017 season, the Cardinals wide receiver told ESPN's Jim Trotter Wednesday he was definitely going to play this season.

Fitzgerald confirmed the report in a text: "Truthful Trotter," Fitzgerald wrote.

Fitzgerald had signed a contract extension through the 2017 season back in training camp.

It's great news for the Cardinals, who still haven't officially heard if quarterback Carson Palmer is coming

back but it seems unlikely Fitzgerald would want to return for another season if he didn't think Palmer was also going to come back.

Having Palmer and Fitzgerald back this season should put the Cardinals in position to make a push in the playoffs – a push expected to come in 2016 but didn't after a 7-8-1 season.

Fitzgerald had just said Tuesday "I feel much better" physically. He's coming off a season when he led the NFL with 107 receptions.

Palmer had been more emphatic than Fitzgerald that he wants to play this season, but that he needed to make sure he was right physically. Coach Bruce Arians had predicted Tuesday that, when it was all said and done, both would play one more season.

Fitzgerald, however, said he didn't feel right lobbying for Palmer's return.

"As a friend, it's best to let him make his own decision," Fitzgerald said.

Fitzgerald will be in Houston this weekend as a finalist for the NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year award. The award will be given Saturday night.
