When it comes to scouting, Monti Ossenfort can get emotional on the subject, and not just the kind of emotion when the debate about a player heats up in pre-draft meetings.
The Cardinals GM was once a scout himself, and he understands the life they lead as they spend weeks on the road, away from family, trying to give their team a full picture of young men whom they could soon employ. It's one of the reasons the Cardinals have the Rod Graves Scouting Award, named after the one-time Cardinals GM and given to the team scout each year who shows passion for the role, the drive to do the job well, resilience and hustle while on the road, provides strong evaluations, and represents the organization well.
In 2025, the award went to area scout Zach Devlin, who has been with the organization since 2017 as a scouting assistant before slowly being promoted through the ranks. He currently scouts the Northeast part of the country for the Cardinals after previously working the Southwest area.
"The award could have gone to a few scouts this year, but Zach was particularly deserving because of the growth he has shown this year through multiple challenges," Ossenfort said. "He has a high care factor and is willing to do whatever is necessary in his role to help the team be successful. Scouting can be a thankless job, but Zach has attacked his role and put us in a good position to add several prospects who are talented on the field and have the intangibles we want off the field. I know Zach will continue to push to improve his own process and bring value to our team."
Devlin had connection to Arizona before working for the team; his father Mike played offensive line for the Cardinals from 1996-99 and then served as an assistant coach from 2000-2003.
