The Cardinals announced the release of cornerback Breon Borders on Sunday, clearing a roster spot for a move Monday -- which is expected to be the activation of defensive lineman J.J. Watt.

Borders struggled in 18 snaps against the Seahawks last week as the Cardinals were down multiple cornerbacks with injuries. While Robert Alford remains on IR, both Marco Wilson (shoulder) and Kevin Peterson (concussion) are expected to play Monday, and veteran Bashaud Breeland is on the practice squad and is expected to be elevated Monday as well.

No NFL transactions are executed officially on Sunday. Watt remains on IR, and if he is activated, it would come Monday.

Borders had been signed off the Titans' practice squad last month after Alford went down with his pectoral injury. He was available last week as depth with Wilson down, but when Peterson suffered his head injury, Borders was forced to play.
