Gannon Talks Kyler Murray Lost Season As Finale Approaches

Quarterback hasn't played since Week 5

Among the many things that didn't work out this season for the Cardinals was at quarterback, where Kyler Murray got hurt in the fifth game, looked like he was tracking to return a few games later, was then put on IR, and then was officially shut down for the season.

Coach Jonathan Gannon was asked Friday about how Murray has dealt with the year went.

"He's a pro too," Gannon said. "I know he's probably not happy how the season went with his health. He'll come back better than ever."

Murray's status for 2026 will be one of the biggest topics for the Cardinals, in an offseason of inevitable change after what has been a 3-13 season heading into the finale at Los Angeles on Sunday.

Gannon talked about Murray's place in the quarterback room after his injury.

"If you're not playing, you obviously have a different role as it relates to the entire system in there," Gannon said. "Guys have done a good job of that because we have had guys in and out of the lineup. But guys take it one day at a time, and they are pros."

Murray has not spoken publicly since after the Week 5 loss to Tennessee. Gannon said he felt like the Cardinals had done everything they could to build the offense around Murray. Asked why he believed that, Gannon said "just how I feel."
