Hurricane Ida Forces Cancellation Of Cardinals-Saints Game

Cardinals have to make U-turn on flight to New Orleans

With the potential landfall of Hurricane Ida in the New Orleans area, the Saints announced Friday that they have canceled Saturday's preseason finale at the Caesars Superdome.

The Cardinals had actually left on their flight for New Orleans before the decision, forcing the team to do a U-turn and return to Phoenix.

The Saints made the decision after a request from the Louisiana Governor. The hurricane is not expected to make landfall until Sunday, but it is being forecast as a Category 4 and with evacuations ongoing and other needs in the community, the football game was canceled.

The Saints have already left the city to go to Dallas to train.

Sunday -- Aug. 29 -- is the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina ravaging New Orleans.
