Coaches always say that once a player is on the field, draft status means little. And Denzel Burke is trying be a tangible reason why. The rookie fifth-round cornerback got his third interception of the season on Sunday -- leading the team -- and played a season-most 70 defensive snaps (out of 77).
Now, some of Burke's playing time has been influenced by injuries. Garrett Williams played a season-low 12 snaps on Sunday after suffering what looked like a serious Achilles injury. Max Melton has been out with a heel issue (although Burke was playing in front of him when Melton last played.)
There is little doubt Burke will get a lot of work the remaining two games of the season as well. Safety Rabbit Taylor-Demerson missed five games, but played 75 snaps Sunday with Jalen Thompson out (and had he not left for a brief injury check, likely would have played every snap.) The secondary also saw the NFL debut of 2024 seventh-round pick Jaden Davis (26 snaps), up from the practice squad and playing in front of the inactive Elijah Jones.
Because of all the Atlanta offensive plays, a bunch of players got more work, like defensive linemen Darius Robinson (43 snaps) and Dalvin Tomlinson (38), who played their second-highest amount. Josh Sweat's ankle injury and season-low seven snaps led to a season-high 42 for Zaven Collins, a season-tying high of 32 for BJ Ojulari, and the second-most snaps (39) for Jordan Burch.
Wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., playing with a bad heel, played only 29 snaps, although the Cardinals only had 57 offensive snaps total. Tight end Josiah Deguara only played eight snaps, but started in a game for the first time since 2023. Rookie Josh Fryar (43) and Demontrey Jacobs (23) again split time at left tackle and "muscle tight end."
