It was a game that captured headlines the entire week, with every sports channel previewing, breaking down, and making their predictions on what might happen on Thursday night. The 7-0 Cardinals were set to face-off against the 6-1 Packers in one of the most anticipated games to ever be played on a Thursday.

A seven-game winning streak to start the season with a defense playing at an elite level and a quarterback playing at an MVP level have sky-rocketed expectations for the Cardinals.

"We feel like we have set a standard for ourselves," Jalen Thompson said. "We try to go out there and meet that standard every week."

There have only been four undefeated teams in NFL history; the 2007 Patriots, the 1972 Dolphins, and the Bears in 1942 and 1934. While the Cardinals undefeated run to start the season was incredible, the odds weren't exactly stacked in their favor.

While the game lived up to the hype, with the entire game coming down to one final play, a touchdown pass that wasn't from Kyler Murray to A.J. Green, with former Cardinals practice squad cornerback Rasul Douglas instead playing the role of hero.

The result wasn't what the Cardinals had hoped for.

"It's hard to lose, period," D.J. Humphries said. "It's an L. We're all competitors. Nobody wants to lose."

The first one of the season is always a tough pill to swallow, but doing so in Week 8 is an impressive feat. There are no moral victories however, only the next opponent.

"We knew adversity would come at some point," said Kyler Murray. "We fought the whole game. We just came up short."

The Cardinals travel to San Francisco for a second meeting vs. the 49ers, and a chance to hold onto first place in the NFC West.

"It's a team that battles. A team that doesn't give up," Jordan Hicks said. "That's the make-up of this team."
