Cardinals Underground - The Guys Are Getting Punchy
It's good that Paul Calvisi and Kyle Odegard have settled their differences from a week ago, leaving an easy transition for the two to join Darren Urban to discuss the Reggie White/J.J. Watt parallels, what's left for the Cardinals to do in free agency, that cornerback position heading into the draft, the pros and cons of trading away the first-round pick for an established veteran or the need for immediate impact from 16, the offseason aggressiveness in the NFC West, the need to chase a QB in the NFL, Colt McCoy's role and, of course, Fitzwatch and the A.J. Green meaning.
Cardinals Underground - Hopping Around OTA Subjects
The Cardinals have begun OTAs, and the topics remain hot for Paul Calvisi, Darren Urban and Dani Sureck. There are the latest comments from DeAndre Hopkins and what his future might be with the Cards (at least here in late May); Budda Baker's similar situation; Kyler Murray taking his mental reps as he rehabs; Zaven Collins playing on the outside and how it could benefit him; the offensive line makeup and yes, what about center; a potential power run game; D.J. Humphries' health; the cornerbacks situation; and potential surprise cuts come September.
Cardinals Underground - We're Talking About Practice
The rookies are now "submerged" with the rest of the roster, and Paul Calvisi, Darren Urban and Dani Sureck are submerged in talking about the Cardinals. Topics this week include Paris' place, finding a punter, what will the quarterback position look like and the drafting of Clayton Tune, Josh Jones' role and/or future, the defensive lines the Cards must face the first month, the matchups on the schedule that catch the eye, what is currently stronger between defensive line and the secondary, and Darren apparently breaks news on extra work for Paul and Dani.
Cardinals Underground - Rookies And The Journey To Paris
With Mother's Day approaching – and that's an excellent topic unto itself, isn't it – Paul Calvisi, Darren Urban and Dani Sureck discuss the upcoming rookie minicamp and what could come from that, the future for Paris Johnson, what could happen at inside linebacker, the unknown about the starting 22 this far away from the season, the best games that will be on the schedule and whether the Cardinals could find themselves in primetime (or in the cold), and Paul talks about his love of javelinas.
Cardinals Underground - No Edits Needed On This Draft
From the big trade that started it – with roots back at the Scouting combine – the draft was a crucial step for the Cardinals and left much to discuss with Paul Calvisi, Darren Urban and Dani Sureck. Among the topics are going O-line to start it all; passing on a center in Round two; what the cornerback room looks like; veteran position needs going forward; Paul's ever-expanding list of intriguing undrafted rookies (I mean, they only are bringing in 10 to begin with); Clayton Tune and drafting a QB; what happens with Isaiah Simmons (and Zaven Collins); the nebulous situation of D-Hop; and Paul's big analogy between the draft and used cars.
Cardinals Underground - Clear Eyes, Full Heart, Let's Draft
Paul Calvisi as GM isn't what anyone wants, but he, Darren Urban and Dani Sureck won't let that them stop them from discussing all things draft (oh, and also the first minicamp of Jonathan Gannon's tenure.) The Panthers know who they are picking, although they aren't saying. So what is going to happen? Topics include the Texans making an informational mess at the top of the draft, the Cardinals looking at trades and figure to spend their full 10 minutes on the clock; the risk at falling in love with a particular player (like Will Anderson), DeAndre Hopkins' future, finally some new uniforms, and Kyler's trip (and others) to Norman – which was always perfectly fine.
Cardinals Underground - Shaking And Bak(er)ing Before Draft
The draft is coming soon, and it's not just picks that the Cardinals have to deal with or what Paul Calvisi, Darren Urban and Dani Sureck are discussing. The draft also means potential trades, and after it came out that Budda Baker might want one, that's a popular topic. There is still the potential of a DeAndre Hopkins trade too – always good to discuss – and of course the potential trade down from No. 3 in the draft. Or not, if no one wants to trade (and Will Anderson isn't available to pick.) There is also what to watch for at the voluntary veteran minicamp next week, how quickly the Cardinals can figure out Isaiah Simmons' role, and Paul's disappointment in not joining the German Birdgang.
Cardinals Underground - An Offseason Under Jonathan Gannon
The Cardinals have begun their offseason program – Darren Urban is out after mangling his foot, but whatever – and Darren, Paul Calvisi and Dani Sureck have noticed the Jonathan Gannon energy already. With the draft two weeks away, the trio discuss what might/could/should happen with the No. 3 pick and if a trade could happen, what it would be worthing moving down to 11, what a D-Hop trade may or may not bring at this point, what Will Anderson means to some, special upgrades, Suns analysis as the playoffs arrive and Paul's trip down Draft Party memory lane.
Cardinals Underground - Lessons Of The Owners Meetings
Alas, Darren Urban didn't look at his bingo card closely enough, and that's a problem. But if Dani Sureck and Paul Calvisi can get past that, there is plenty to discuss this week, including the culture the new free agent additions can bring, the trade winds around both the No. 3 pick and DeAndre Hopkins, the unknowns around Kyler Murray's return and the Cardinals' current QB situation, Isaiah Simmons' "good health news," the future at center, and the reality of Thursday night flexing.
