The Cardinals have their captains for 2025, including a familiar name who last wore the "C" for the team back in 2016: Calais Campbell.
Joining Campbell are three repeats from 2024: quarterback Kyler Murray, running back James Conner and safety Budda Baker. Three new names will wear the "C" as well: linebacker Mack Wilson Sr., center Hjalte Froholdt and for special teams, safety Joey Blount.
It is the first time in their careers for Wilson, Froholdt and Blount. It is the sixth straight season earning captainship for Baker and Murray and the fourth straight season for Conner.
For Wilson and Froholdt, who arrived in Arizona having mostly served as ancillary pieces to their previous teams, the vote underscored how much each has blossomed as full-time important contributors for the Cardinals.
"They've starred in their role," coach Jonathan Gannon said. "They were brought here for a reason. Mack is in kind of a different role this year and Hjalte is in the same role, but they've done a really good job. They have bought in to what we are trying to do. They have positive energy all the time, they do the right things all the time, they hold guys accountable and they hold themselves accountable.
"People see that. We have a lot of good guys -- it's not like these are the only seven guys that do things how I want it done. But they can definitely steer the train the right way."
It is the sixth time Campbell has been named a captain. He earned the patch twice in his previous stint with the Cardinals, twice when he played for the Jaguars, and once last year with the Dolphins during his lone season with Miami.
"When we signed (Calais), we had the foresight he was going to impact our team in a positive way," Gannon said. "It was cool to see his peers vote for him."
The captains were voted on by the players. Last season, the team had just four captains -- Murray, Conner, Baker and the departed Kyzir White.
