SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

Last time out: Washington 26, 49ers 24

Record: 0-6 overall, 0-3 in division

Snapshot: San Francisco's close-loss woes continued, as it dropped a fifth consecutive game by three points or fewer. The 49ers had the ball with a chance to win, but a dubious offensive pass interference call on wide receiver Pierre Garcon helped doom their chances.

Notable: Starting quarterback Brian Hoyer was benched and replaced by rookie C.J. Beathard. Hoyer was 4-of-11 for 34 yards before getting pulled. Beathard finished the game 19-of-36 for 245 yards with a touchdown and an interception. First-round pick Solomon Thomas had a team-high nine tackles, a sack and two tackles for loss in the game.

Quotable: "C.J.'s had a good week of practice. He's put two good weeks together. I had a feeling going in that if it went like that, I had to make the move to give us a chance to win." -- 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan on anointing Beathard his new starting quarterback.

Injury update:Defensive lineman Arik Armstead broke his hand and will miss a significant chunk of the season.

Next up: The 49ers host the Cowboys in Week 7.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

Last time out: The Seahawks were idle in Week 6.

Record: 3-2 overall, 2-0 in division

Bye-week synopsis:The Seahawks aren't clicking on all cylinders yet, but came away with a critical road win against the Rams in their most recent game to keep the NFC West race tight. Seattle's offensive line continues to be problematic, and there are legitimate questions about this team's ceiling if that doesn't get fixed.

However, the Seahawks still have quarterback Russell Wilson and a top-shelf defense that gives them a chance every week. Seattle has started slowly in past seasons before coming on strong. They are aiming for a fourth division title in five years, and it's shaping up to be a good race with the Rams and Cardinals also in the mix.

Next up: The Seahawks travel to play the Giants in Week 7.

LOS ANGELES RAMS

Last time out: Rams 27, Jaguars 17

Record: 4-2 overall, 1-0 in division

Snapshot: A pair of special teams touchdowns propelled the Rams to a road win over Jacksonville. Pharoh Cooper returned the opening kickoff 103 yards for a score and Malcolm Brown returned a blocked punt for a touchdown.

Notable: Rams quarterback Jared Goff was only 11-of-21 passing for 124 yards with a touchdown, but the team didn't need a lot of offense in this one. The defense gave up a 75-yard touchdown run to Leonard Fournette in the first quarter but stiffened from there. Los Angeles took sole possession of first place in the NFC West with the win.

Quotable: "Hit the sidelines and took off, prayed that I didn't get caught." Cooper, via therams.com, on what he was thinking on the kickoff return score.

Key stat:2. Touchdowns in the first 25 seconds of the game, the fastest in the Super Bowl era.

Next up: The Rams will play the Cardinals in London in Week 7.
