Broncos aftermath, and a night to forget

Well, this probably won't be all that long. There's not a whole lot to say after that one. I get that people want to see change and they want to see it immediately, but there wasn't going to be anything postgame. When Steve Wilks said it would be "premature" about saying anything, that is what he meant. I'm guessing the head coach won't get much sleep tonight mulling over where this team is at the moment.

I don't know if there will be any changes, but having a mini-bye this weekend provides a window to do some. It's possible there could be some roster moves. I won't be shocked if there is some news Friday, but who knows? Wilks talks at 12:50 p.m. I'm sure the subject will come up again.

But the Cardinals can't play like this. It was ugly, no question. (Yes, I've seen uglier. I was in Seattle in 2012, after all.) It was a very bad combo of a rookie quarterback having some growing pains combined with an entire team that just seems to be lost right now.

-- I continue to be impressed with Josh Rosen. Thursday, it certainly wasn't because of the way he played, which was not good. He wasn't alone in that regard. But the way he handled everything postgame, criticizing himself but doing it in such a way where you believe he still has the confidence he'll get better. The way he chided himself for being "soft" because he kind of jogged-limped off the field at the end. Hopefully the Cards can find a way to get him the right experience the rest of this season, and not let a season come off the rails and have him dragged down with it.

-- All that said, it's a very good thing Rosen wasn't seriously hurt at the end. Still, I agree with Rosen -- he needs reps. It's going to be tough to take him out. (Although I understand the arguments to do so.)

-- Von Miller made his predictions earlier in the week, he followed through by coming up with a pair of sacks and forced fumbles himself, but the Broncos' linebacker wasn't rubbing it in after the game. "It wasn't even for the Cardinals, it was for my teammates," Miller said about his pre-game comments. "It was just to put us in that mentality, 'No backing down now."

-- I do plan on a mailbag next Tuesday. I'm sure I'll regret this, but here's the link to leave questions.

-- Wilks said he thought Rodney Gunter played pretty well starting in place of Robert Nkemdiche, and from the little I focused on Gunter, I'd agree. That may stay a permanent lineup change.

-- Larry Fitzgerald has now caught TD passes from 15 different quarterbacks in his career. It was good to see him get one, even during an otherwise forgetful night.

-- Patrick Peterson's interception was nice too, although that late penalty he took during a punt return looked like a guy who needed to get his frustrations out somehow.

That's enough for tonight. There will be more tomorrow -- in a matter of hours. Time to get some sleep.
