The Cardinals made one of their allowed weekly practice-squad elevations Saturday by moving up running back Jonathan Ward.

It will give coach Kliff Kingsbury the option for a third running back Sunday against the Lions behind Kenyan Drake and Chase Edmonds between two rookies -- Ward, undrafted, and seventh-round draft pick Eno Benjamin. Benjamin has been inactive the first two weeks after the Cards had elevated veteran D.J. Foster from the practice squad.

Foster, who had been playing on special teams, hurt his quadriceps last week against Washington and was placed on the Practice Squad Injured Reserve this week.

Ward looked impressive in training camp after his career at Central Michigan, which included two 1,000-yard seasons.
