Jacoby Brissett Named Starting QB For Game Against Seahawks

Gannon seeks "clarity" for team as Murray works toward full health

Quarterback Jacoby Brissett will start against the Seahawks Sunday.

There will be no quarterback wait this week.

Coach Jonathan Gannon said Tuesday that veteran Jacoby Brissett will start a fourth straight game on Sunday in Seattle, but emphasized that Kyler Murray is not healthy with a foot injury.

"Kyler will keep working on his health bucket," Gannon said, emphasizing he isn't ruling Murray out for the Seahawks game. "I do like what the offense is doing right now, and we'll go from there."

"The clarity that it provides gameplanning for our team, I think that's important," he added.

On his appearance on Arizona Sports, Gannon said Brissett's play as well as Murray's injury is what has gotten Brissett into the starting lineup.

Gannon was also asked on his weekly appearance on Arizona Sports if Brissett would still be the quarterback if Murray were healthy. "It's a hypothetical to me, but yeah, I like where we are at with the offense moving forward."

Multiple national reports said Murray had a 4-to-8 week injury. Gannon would not rule out a stint on Injured Reserve. He also said he had not thought about whether Murray would be a backup in Seattle if Murray were healthy enough.

"(Kyler) wants to be out there," Gannon said. "He's a competitor, I talked to him today. He's a good teammate and he wants to get healthy."

In the Cardinals' three games with Brissett at QB, they have averaged 25.6 points a game, a jump from the first five games of the season. With the win in Dallas Monday night, the Cardinals (3-5) face a crucial next two games within the NFC West at Seattle and then home against the 49ers.

Brissett said after the Cowboys game he did not think he was the sole reason the offense had improved, and Gannon said it was "all 11" on the unit that had raised the play and scoring output.

He added the Seahawks have the best defense the Cardinals will have faced in their current stretch.

"I do like how we are operating as an offense," Gannon said. "In my mind I take all the variables in my decision and make the decision when I need to. I think we're doing a pretty good job on offense."

TRADE DEADLINE PASSES

The Cardinals did not make a trade at the NFL deadline, which came and went on Tuesday. It was the first year GM Monti Ossenfort didn't make a November deal; he sent QB Joshua Dobbs to the Vikings in 2023 and last season acquired linebacker Baron Browning from the Broncos.
