Kyler Murray Won't Return This Season

Foot injury not progressing for QB; Harrison also out for Sunday

Quarterback Kyler Murray hasn't played since Week 5.

Kyler Murray's season is over.

Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon said Friday the quarterback, who has been on Injured Reserve after suffering a foot injury in Week 5, will not play again in 2025 because the foot has not healed. After further tests "out of state," the decision was made that Murray would be shut down.

"He wasn't progressing in a way that we wanted, so we went and got a different opinion, some different people, and (the foot) is just not right," Gannon said.

Jacoby Brissett has been the starter since Week 6.

As for Murray's status as quarterback of the Cardinals in 2026, Gannon declined to address it. "I'm worried about the Rams right now, honestly" he said.

Murray played in a career-low five games this season, completing 110 of 161 passes for 962 yards, 6 touchdowns and 3 interceptions for a passer rating of 88.6. He rushed for 173 yards on 29 carries with 1 touchdown.

Murray has not spoken to the media since postgame against the Titans Week 5. He missed three games before being placed on IR, and there had been hope in those three weeks he might return. He posted on social media on Thursday a picture of himself, James Conner, Marvin Harrison Jr. and Michael Wilson during an offseason workout with the title "Weird Year" and added a caption that said, "Never again."

The Cardinals will also be without Harrison against the Rams Sunday. Harrison suffered a heel injury last week. Gannon added that he wasn't sure if running back Trey Benson, who is on IR with a knee injury, is going to be able to return this year.

Wide receiver Greg Dortch (chest) and defensive tackle Walter Nolen III (knee) are among those who are also out Sunday.

"That's the job," Gannon said about the injuries. "I appreciate the staff, because I am the one who tells them, 'Here's who is up, here's who is down, this is what you're going to have.' And there is no negativity, there is no 'poor little old me' ... there is none of that. Because that's the job.

"You have to figure it out. Our job is to have solutions and be a part of the solution, not part of the problem."
