For a third straight game, Jacoby Brissett will be the starting quarterback for the Cardinals.
Kyler Murray "is not ready to go," coach Jonathan Gannon said Saturday morning in naming Brissett his QB1 against the Cowboys in Dallas on "Monday Night Football." Murray has been out with a foot injury.
Murray could "possibly" have a role, Gannon added, but said that will be determined how practice goes on Saturday and likely how Murray responds on game day. Kedon Slovis has been the backup the last two games.
Brissett is expected to meet with the media after practice on Saturday.
"Everyone is different," Gannon said. "Every player, every injury is unique. (Kyler's) been pushing, we've been pushing. He is getting better and he's had more work this week.
"I know he wants to be out there and is doing everything he can."
As for the role, Gannon said there are a "lot of different scenarios" where for both the player and the team in the next 48 hours something could happen. Gannon declined to get into specifics, but if something were to happen to Brissett, it's possible Murray would get the nod over Slovis as a starter.
Gannon said the decision to start Brissett was purely health-related.
The hope had been that Murray would return this week, with the game being in his hometown and with Murray sporting an 8-0 record in his football career as a starting QB in AT&T Stadium – including a 2-0 mark with the Cardinals.
Instead, Brissett will get another chance. He has played well in his two starts.
