Kyler Murray Status Unknown As Cardinals Head Into Key Colts Game

Quarterback hurt foot against Titans

Marvin Harrison Jr. has already caught passes from Jacoby Brissett.

Even when starting quarterback Kyler Murray is taking all the practice reps, Harrison gets with Brissett for some throws after the workout or sometimes helping keep Brissett's arm loose during practice.

"Just developing that kind of relationship," Harrison said, adding "I have full trust in Jacoby."

That might matter Sunday in Indianapolis. Murray sat out practice with the foot injury he suffered against Tennessee. As for his status for the game against the Colts, "we'll see how the week goes," coach Jonathan Gannon said.

Gannon was asked if Murray could play even if his ability to scramble is compromised.

"If he's healthy enough to play he'll play," Gannon added.

Murray normally speaks on Wednesdays, but after practice, it was announced "the quarterback" would speak later in the week. Murray, during a brief appearance in the locker room, seemed to be walking around OK.

Against the Titans Murray went to the locker room after the mistimed snap hit him in the facemask and turned into a lost fumble. He missed two snaps, although Gannon acknowledged later that the Cardinals couldn't make certain playcalls in deference to Murray's issue.

Murray played 15 snaps after returning to the game, going 4-for-7 for 26 yards passing and handing the ball off seven times. He was sacked once.

If Brissett plays, he will do so against the team for which he started 30 games to begin his career. He started five games last season for the Patriots before ceding the QB1 spot to then-rookie Drake Maye.

"(Jacoby) is a true pro, and I know that term gets thrown around, but when you are in his seat, the quarterback position is the hardest position in sports and to know that you are one play away from your role changing, you really have to be on the details," Gannon said. "He has a smile on his face. He loves to practice. He loves to prepare. He loves to play.

"He's a great football player, a great teammate, a really good leader and if he's gotta play, he's gotta play."

Brissett has thrown one pass this season, an incompletion on Sunday that coincidentally was the play in which tight end Tip Reiman suffered his season-ending ankle injury. The Cardinals already have been shorthanded at running back, where James Conner and Trey Benson are on IR.

"It might be different talking to me as opposed to say, talking to Marvin (Harrison), whether the quarterback is Kyler, whether it's Jacoby, whether it's (a media member), I can't even see you," left tackle Paris Johnson Jr. said. "All I see is the man in front of me. I'm going to do my job regardless and I'm sure the rest of the guys in the (offensive line) room feel the exact same way.

"We fully trust Jacoby and the pocket presence he has. He's been in this league this long for a reason."

'ENERGY' AFTER EMARI/GANNON SITUATION

Asked about the fine he incurred from the team after his sideline incident with running back Emari Demercado on Sunday, Gannon noted that he had addressed the situation Monday and added "you take accountability and move on." Gannon had been upset with Demercado when the back had dropped the ball just short of the goal line on what should've been a 72-yard TD run.

Tackle Paris Johnson Jr., who was next to Demercado giving support on the sideline when Gannon approached after the play, said the team had also already moved on.

"I'm young but I guess I'm a little old school," Johnson said. "I believe in tough coaching and holding accountable. But I think the team received (the JG apology) well. JG, I love the approach, I love the toughness. That's just Ohio ball. He's from Cleveland. I grew up on that 'let's get this thing right.' At the same time, being able to pick up Emari, that balance too. I think Emari took that well. We are back doing our thing, and the juice and energy is good from everybody."

REIMAN OFFICIALLY TO IR

The Cardinals officially put tight end Tip Reiman on Injured Reserve, as Gannon had said was happening on Monday. The team also signed tight end Nick Muse to the practice squad, cutting safety Patrick McMorris from the practice squad. The Cardinals now have an opening on the 53-man roster.
