Paris Johnson Jr. has his own story about his work ethic to become on of the top offensive linemen, first in high school, then in college, and now the NFL.
He now will have is Paris Johnson Jr. Foundation honor someone similar in the early stages of his career in Johnson's home state of Ohio.
The Foundation announced on Monday it is launching the Ohio High School Offensive Lineman of the Year award, for a senior player who exhibits "exceptional traits" both on the football field and in the community. The idea is not only to reward an excellent player, but also to underscore the value offensive linemen -- a position oft overlooked -- have on a team.
(The NFL is doing something similar this year by introducing the Protector of the Year award for an O-lineman, debuting at the upcoming NFL Honors after the season.)
"Offensive linemen are the backbone of any successful football team, but their contributions often go unrecognized," Johnson said in a statement. "This award is about more than football performance. It's about celebrating young men who protect their teammates on the field and serve as leaders in their schools and communities."
