Biography

NoteCARDS:

  • The first of two Cardinals 2019 second-round (33rd overall) picks, Murphy was once a teammate of each of Arizona's two previous second-round selections. He was a high school teammate of 2018 second-round pick (47th overall) WR Christian Kirk and a college teammate of 2017 second-rounder (36th overall) S Budda Baker.
  • The second CB – and fourth DB – selected in the 2019 NFL Draft.
  • A native of Scottsdale, he attended Saguaro High School where he was a teammate of Kirk in 2014. In their lone season playing together for the Sabercats in '14, Murphy (a junior) and Kirk (a senior) helped lead the team to a perfect 14-0 record and state title. Both players earned first-team All-State honors as they combined for 57 total TDs and over 4,300 total yards rushing and receiving.
  • Named the Arizona Cardinals High School Player of the Year in 2015 following his senior year at Saguaro.
  • Prior to transferring to Saguaro in 2014, was a teammate of former ASU star WR N'Keal Harry at Marcos de Niza High School in Tempe, AZ. Harry (32nd overall to the Patriots) went one pick before Murphy in the 2019 draft.
  • Named a second-team All-American by the Associated Press, SI.com, USA Today and The Sporting News and was named first-team All-American by ProFootballFocus.com in 2018.
