Biography

NoteCARDS:

  • First of Arizona's two second-round (33rd overall) picks in the 2019 NFL Draft, Murphy was a high school teammate of 2018 second-round pick (47th overall) Christian Kirk and a college teammate of 2017 second-rounder (36th overall) Budda Baker.
  • One of four rookie defenders to start all 16 games and played the fifth most defensive snaps (1,104) among NFL rookies in 2019. Joined QB Kyler Murray to form the league's only duo of first-year teammates to start all 16 games on opposite sides of the ball.
  • Led the Cardinals with 10 passes defensed in 2019, which tied for third among NFL rookies and ranked third in franchise history by a first-year player.
  • A native of Scottsdale, he was a teammate of Kirk at Saguaro High School in 2014. In their lone season playing together for the Sabercats, Murphy (a junior) and Kirk (a senior) helped lead the team to a perfect 14-0 record and state title. Both players earned first-team All-State honors as they combined for 57 total TDs and over 4,300 total yards rushing and receiving.
  • Named the Arizona Cardinals High School Player of the Year in 2015 following his senior year at Saguaro.
