Biography

NoteCARDS:

  • Selected first overall by the Cardinals in the 2019 NFL Draft and ninth overall by the Oakland Athletics in the 2018 MLB Draft, becoming the first person ever selected in the first round of both the NFL and MLB drafts.
  • In his first two NFL seasons, named Rookie of the Year (2019) and selected to his first Pro Bowl (2020).
  • Had 61 combined TDs (rushing and passing) in his first 32 games, trailing only Dan Marino (68) and Cam Newton (62) for the most in a player's first two seasons in NFL history. Became the first player in NFL history with 7,500+ passing yards, 45+ TD passes and 15+ TD runs in his first two NFL seasons, and had the most completions (724) in NFL history in a player's first two seasons.
  • Voted a team captain and earned his first-career Pro Bowl selection in 2020, becoming the first QB in franchise history named to Pro Bowl within his first two NFL seasons and the youngest Cardinals QB (23) to earn a Pro Bowl nod.
  • Received the 2020 Bridgestone Clutch Performance Play of the Year award for the "Hail Murray," a 43-yard game-winning TD pass to DeAndre Hopkins with just 0:02 remaining in regulation against the Bills.
  • Earned "NFC Offensive Player of the Week" honors three times in 2020 – at NY Jets (Week 5), vs. Seattle (Week 7) and vs. Philadelphia (Week 15) – becoming the first player in team history named "Player of the Week" three times in a single season.
  • Set an NFL record for the most games with a passing and rushing TD in a season with nine in 2020 and became the first player in NFL history with both a passing and rushing TD in five consecutive games (Games 5-9) that season. Murray (10) trails only Jim Hart (11 in 199 games) for the most such performances in team history.
  • Established a single-season franchise record with a 67.2 completion percentage (375-of-558) in 2020 and set a single-season franchise record for rushing TDs (11) and rushing yards (819) by a QB last season.
  • Earned 2019 AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors after becoming just the sixth QB in NFL history - and second rookie (Cam Newton) - with at least 3,500 passing yards and 500 rushing yards in a season. Became the third player in Cardinals history to earn NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, joining Ottis Anderson (1979) and Anquan Boldin (2003).
  • A first-team All-American as a junior in 2018 at Oklahoma, won the Heisman Trophy, was named the Associated Press Player of the Year and earned Davey O'Brien Quarterback of the Year, Manning Award and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award honors.
  • Posted a 57-3 record in 60 starts at QB in high school and college, including a perfect 43-0 record at national powerhouse Allen (TX) High School.
