The Cardinals continue their head coaching search, but so too do most of the NFL teams who have been looking for new bosses.
Of the nine openings, only the Giants, with John Harbaugh, have chosen a new head coach as of Friday morning
The Cardinals have reached out to 13 possible candidates, according to reports. (It should be noted the Cardinals are not officially announcing candidates or interviews.) Again according to reports, the team has interviewed former Falcons head coach Raheem Morris, 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, and were to interview Rams offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur. There was a report they had scheduled an interview with Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, but whether that happened has not been revealed.
NFL rules are stringent in terms of talking to coaches who remain in the playoffs; Saleh and LeFleur for instance have had to fit multiple interviews with teams into game-planning for this weekend's playoff games.
The timeline for the Cardinals finding a new coach over the years has been back and forth, although it should be noted the NFL schedule and a later start to this season has pushed the entire league calendar a little later. A look at the hiring dates for Cardinals head coaches dating back to Buddy Ryan in 1994:
- Jonathan Gannon – Feb. 14
