The Cardinals have rookie Chandler Catanzaro as their kicker now after cutting veteran Jay Feely.

The Cardinals made their first round of cuts Monday, choosing to go with rookie kicker Chandler Catanzaro over veteran Jay Feely in one of the closer competitions of training camp.

Also released Monday were quarterback Ryan Lindley and veteran tackle Max Starks. Lindley was not a surprise given the team's drafting of Logan Thomas to be the third developmental quarterback. Starks, hampered by an ankle injury, fell behind Bradley Sowell the past two weeks on the depth chart.

Ten other players were cut:

-- LB Keenan Clayton

-- LB JoJo Dickson

-- C Tom Draheim

-- WR Reggie Dunn

-- LB Derrell Johnson

-- S Orhian Johnson

-- WR Kevin Ozier

-- DT Justin Renfrow

-- CB Brandon Sermons

-- RB Damien Thigpen

The team is now at the 75-man roster limit required for this week.

Catanzaro made all four of his field goal tries in the preseason and has shown a huge leg on kickoffs, something Feely has had to try and manufacture with new mechanics.

"Both were about the same field-goal-wise," coach Bruce Arians said. "Kickoffs, there was a huge difference although Jay really improved his. I just like the strength of (Catanzaro's) leg for a young guy, and there is a certain demeanor to him.

"I thought it was fair to Jay to give him a week to get with another team."

Arians also said there was a chance the Cardinals could bring back Starks down the road if needed, and if he remained available.
