Cardinals To Have Reported Second Interview With Another Coach Candidate

Anthony Weaver is being considered for multiple head coaching vacancies

As the NFL enters championship game weekend, the Cardinals coaching search is having another reported second interview, this time with Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.

Weaver is a former player who has coached in the league since 2012, spent the last two seasons as the Dolphins DC and the previous two seasons before that as the Ravens assistant head coach as well as their D-line coach. Weaver had a second interview for the Bills' vacancy on Saturday.

This comes after the reported second interview with Jaguars defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile.

There are also five previously reported potential candidates that remain in the playoffs:

  • Patriots passing game coordinator Thomas Brown
  • Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph
  • Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak
  • Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur
  • Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula

If a coach on a Super Bowl team had a virtual interview with a team prior to the Super Bowl bye week, the coach can do an in-person interview during the bye week. So in theory if the Cards previously talked to a candidate, they could still have an interview if that coach's team wins Sunday. The Broncos host the Patriots and the Seahawks host the Rams on Sunday.

Aside from the Cardinals, the Bills, Steelers, Raiders and Browns are still looking for a head coach.

UPDATE: The Steelers are now hiring Mike McCarthy to be their coach, so the openings are down to four.
