Dennis Gardeck will start training camp on the Active/Physically-Unable-to-Perform list.

The Cardinals' outside linebacker tore his ACL in Week 15 last year against the Eagles, and while coach Kliff Kingsbury was encouraged by his progress this offseason, Gardeck is not yet ready to practice.

Gardeck has been working diligently on his rehabilitation, but declined to put a timetable on his return to the field in mid-June.

Gardeck had a breakout year in 2020, finishing with seven sacks in only 93 defensive snaps before the injury. He signed a second-round tender as a restricted free agent this offseason and is expected to be a situational pass-rusher behind Chandler Jones and Markus Golden when he does return to the field.

Gardeck can be moved from the PUP list to the active roster at any time prior to the regular season. If he remains on the PUP list after the preseason ends, Gardeck would have to sit out the first six weeks of the season.

However, Kingsbury said this offseason that if Gardeck wasn't ready for the start of camp, "I'd expect him to be ready soon thereafter."
